  • 01. Sumayyah Wyatt

    A family is expressing outrage after they say a teacher pulled the hijab off the head of a 7-year old Muslim girl. Sumayyah Wyatt’s mother stated that her daughter is no longer interested in wearing the Muslim garb after the incident at Seth Boyden Elementary School in Maplewood, New Jersey.

    The teacher told her to remove it. When she resisted, the teacher yanked it off in front of the entire class. Ultimately, the teacher succeeds in pulling it off, followed by a bizarre statement, “Your hair is beautiful.”

  • 02. Anonymous Victims

    A man is accused of a series of hate crimes over the course of about five weeks during which he allegedly followed Muslims in Queens before yelling anti-Muslim statements and attacking them.

    In one of three incidents detailed by the office, he is accused of following a man and woman in Queens in June while yelling anti-Muslim slurs and Islamophobic statements. Prosecutors say the man tried to pull the woman’s hijab and demanded she take it off. When the woman did not remove the hijab, he punched the woman in the arm and the man in the back.

  • 03. Sanaa Beaufort

    A Muslim high school student says she was jumped during Ramadan in Montgomery County. The girl tells FOX 29 the hijab was ripped off her head by two other female students yet she was suspended. “I don’t understand why it happened. I don’t think anyone does,” 16-year-old Sanaa Beaufort said.

    “For it to happen, not only to me, but in front of everyone on purpose. It just doesn’t feel right and I’m not okay,” Beaufort explained. She adds the fight, in which she says her hijab was ripped from her head, came after some very hateful words were allegedly hurled at her by two white female students.

  • 04. Anonymous Victims

    A New York City woman attacked two Muslim women and their infant children in what authorities described as a hate crime. The woman was arraigned after she hit the women in the face and body and tried to rip the hijab off their heads in Brooklyn.

    The women had been pushing their children in strollers. She also pushed one stroller to the ground and rattled the other. “This is the United States of America, you’re not supposed to be different from us,” was yelled during the attack, according to court documents. She swore at the women while telling them to leave the United States. “You don’t belong here.”
